Behind the Brush: A Journey Through My Watercolor Creations

6/9/2025

"The allure of layering colors and the enchanting transparency of watercolor are akin to the beauty of stained glass—it's pure magic. For me, watercolor reigns as the queen of all artistic mediums."

My artistic journey began during my studies in architecture at the Vilnius Art Academy, where I first encountered the stunning watercolor works of architecture by my teacher. I envisioned myself creating similar pieces, yet at that time, I couldn't bring that vision to life. My initial attempts felt lacking; the depth I sought eluded me, and I walked away feeling defeated.

Relocating to America thrust me into the vibrant worlds of Hollywood, fashion, and beauty. Alongside my oil painting, I delved into makeup and hairstyling, enhancing the natural beauty of women through art on their faces. I reveled in the interplay of shapes, skin tones, and styles. Yet, amid this creativity, I found myself yearning for the meditative quality that painting on canvas or paper provides.

Few years ago I discovered John Singer Sargent watercolor paintings and I was moved by them. I decided to give watercolor another chance. By serendipity, I stumbled upon a plein air class at Huntington Gardens, where a kind woman raved about the brilliance of the teacher. Intrigued, I enrolled in a class with E. Richard Scott, and to my delight, my passion for watercolor reignited! I finally achieved the depth and serenity I had long sought, transforming my painting into a meditative experience. It felt like a dream come true.

Looking back, I often wondered why I postponed this journey for so long, thinking I would pursue it in my later years. Yet here I am now, eagerly reaching for my brush, immersing myself in the soothing sounds of classical music or Sade, and surrendering to the beautiful unpredictability of this liquid medium.

I feel incredibly blessed to do what I love and share it with you, my audience. Thank you for joining me on this artistic adventure!
